DSI-CSIR Inter-bursary support (IBS) Programme 2025 for Postgraduate Studies

Applications are now open for the 2025 DSI-CSIR IBS Bursary Program. The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is a leading scientific and technology research organisation that researches, develops, localises and diffuses technologies to accelerate socio economic prosperity in South Africa.

Eligibility

1. All students who have been accepted or registered for full-time studies at any South African public university.
2. All students who intend to register or are registered for the following:
   • Honours/fourth-year engineering/Postgraduate Diploma;
   • Master’s; and
   • Doctorate.

DSI-CSIR IBS applications are restricted to students whose degrees align with the thematic research areas and research themes/technology streams indicated below. Supervisor endorsement and motivation will be required for each bursary application for master’s and doctoral studies.

Preference will be given to applicants from previously disadvantaged backgrounds and people living with disabilities.

Current univeristy students accepted or registered for full-time studies at any South African university looking to complete a Honours, 4th year Engineering, Postgraduate Diploma, Masters or Doctoral qualification.

Please Note: The CSIR-DSI Inter-Bursary Support Programme applications are restricted to those students whose degrees are aligned to specific thematic research areas and research themes/technology streams. Supervisor endorsement and motivation will be required with each bursary application for Masters and Doctoral applications.

• Applications that are incomplete and that include misrepresentations will immediately be disregarded.

  • 2025 DSI-CSIR IBS BURSARY closes: Saturday, 31 August 2024 at 12 midday
• Bursary allocation year for application type:
  • 2025 DSI-CSIR IBS BURSARY will be allocated for the 2025 academic year

Required Documents

• Certified copy of Applicant RSA ID
• 2023 (or last completed qualification) end-of year Official Final Academic results (official institution report) [or police affidavit stating why student wasn’t schooling]
• OPTIONAL- 2024 latest (June, etc) Official Academic Results (official institution report) [or police affidavit stating why student wasn’t schooling]
• OPTIONAL- Admission Letter for 2025 Study Programme
• OPTIONAL- 2024 Proof of Registration if studying in 2024
• OPTIONAL- If Applicant is disabled? Submit Dept. of Labour Employment Equity Act (EEA1) Form AND a Doctors’ Letter [*]  
• Certified Copy of Applicant’s Matric Certificate
• Recommendation letter by Supervisor (compulsory for master’s and doctoral applicants).
• All certified documents must be less than 3 months old.
